Unique. Nice for the price.

I have some really nice mandolins. I like to have an inexpensive one--it's like a hobby project to invest some work into them, enjoy the results, and have one I can leave silverwound strings on. A customer (pro player) wanted to actually buy one of these (one of my own) because it came out so well. I spent THAT money on this RM75, and I'm very satisfied. It's about what I expected in quality, maybe even a little nicer, but they DO need some work to get them playing great.
These actually have Gotoh tuners, no complaints there. The bridge is ok but it took some re-working to get it low enough for me. That's no big deal you're going to set-up a new instrument anyway. The fretwork was fairly level, but I like slightly larger frets and always refret mandolins that come fretted with this smallest size, I expected that too. Not necessary though if you like this size fretwire. The nut needed a little cutting for great action, but again that's no big deal either if have a set-up done.
It intonated well. The tone is very nice, airy, kind of reminds me of the volume you get from and A-style. I like this. Sounds great with the silverwound strings!
That unique vintage aged amber/muted orange stained finish is amazing! I'm impressed with that. The value and quality remind me of the Ibanez models in this class, but you know I'd have to say as a professional these Rover RM75's are definitely a slight bit nicer. Louder than expected and it doesn't sonud "flimsy" like some real cheap ones can. The solid top is a plus. It seems to be a pressed top not a carved top but at this price it's still a great feature. Tone bars, construction is pretty solid. Very comfortable neck profile w/a flat (no radius) fretboard.
I'm leaving a review HERE because it was the website I bought it from, and it was THE best price I could find. Shipped quickly too, no issues. The little gigbag was a nice touch too.
If you're considering something in this price range, brand new, and are willing to have the set-up work done, just TLC finer details, nut slots, bridge finishing/fitting, fret dress, you won't be disappointed. Staying in tune better than some of my more expensive mandolins right now. Got my money's worth! Score one for Musician Outfitters too, thanks.
